COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Piano Students are encouraged to perform often within the community. Performing opportunities at assisted living homes for Halloween Christmas, and Valentine's Day are available. Older students are invited to perform for one hour each at area Home Tours, Hospitals, Northlake Mall, assisted living homes, schools, churches, and private parties.
COMPUTER THEORY PROGRAMS: The studio offers multiple computer theory programs for students of all levels. Students are encouraged to work before or after their lessons on these educational programs.
PIANO COMPETITIONS: Students may choose to participate in area competitions or play in the Festival or Guild. For performance preparation, piano lessons may overlap 5 minutes so that students can perform for each other. A recording is made of these performances so that each student can critique himself/herself.
COMPOSITION COMPETITIONS: Students may chose to participate in composition competitions in Local through International levels.
STUDIO MASTER CLASSES: A Studio Master Class is offered to older students who are preparing for area competitions. Recordings of the Master Classes are available for each student. Guest Clinicians have been from area colleges and universities.
PIANO DUET RECITAL: An annual Piano Duet Recital is held in the Spring at Steinway Piano Gallery.
This Duet Recital is a Fund Raiser for the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.
PIANO SOLO RECITAL: One annual Piano Solo recital is held in May.
GRADUATING SENIOR RECITALS: Each Graduating Senior is given the opportunity to plan their own Graduating Senior Recital. Under my guidance, the student is responsible for securing the venue, setting the date/time for both the performance and dress rehearsal, selecting the repertoire, printing the program, sending invitations, and planning a reception.
APPRENTICE STUDENT TEACHERS: Graduating Seniors and advanced high school students are given the opportunity to become Apprentice Student Teachers. Each Apprentice Teacher is assigned a beginner piano student, and they receive weekly guidance from me with regards to piano literature, technique, student performance opportunities, and billing.
STUDENTS with MUSIC CAREERS: My studio has had numerous students who have made a career in music, in teaching, performing, composing, conducting, or music therapy. Several students have received scholarships to study music at a university. One former student has achieved National Certification with MTNA.
